Our recent visit to the Coverings Show in Orlando left us brimming with excitement and inspiration as we explored the latest in the world of hard surfaces. The event was a vibrant showcase of creativity and craftsmanship, offering a glimpse into the future of design with cutting-edge materials and techniques.

Step into a world of innovative tile design with our recap of Coverings 2025, showcasing the hottest trends, textures, and tones in tile and stone.

Color Trends to Watch: From Greens to Red Bordeaux

The green theme continues to dominate, but this year we saw an exciting addition: red stones. Vendors are introducing bold options, such as the new Red Bordeaux, which pays homage to the classic Rosso Verona. This vibrant introduction aligns perfectly with the color of the year, a medium-toned salmon.

Expect to see stones in beiges, maroons, and browns making a comeback, pushing aside the once-dominant grey tones. Statement stones are not just maintaining their popularity, but these trending colors are now seen in even larger formats as well as extending beyond field tiles into mosaics and meticulously crafted porcelains.

The Resurgence of Handmade Ceramics

Handmade ceramics are experiencing a renaissance, with zellige tiles continuing to lead the way. These sought-after tiles now come in fresh formats, such as tumbled mosaics and intricate mosaic patterns. We were particularly impressed by a new collection that combined zellige with natural stone, presenting stunning, soft hues.

One standout was the unique ceramic block called Terrae, which also features the color of the year. These block tiles are trending as versatile options for room dividers or accent walls, adding a distinctive touch to any space. Old World Revival: Nostalgia with a Modern Twist

We saw a noticeable shift towards old-world aesthetics, characterized by stones that boast rustic and tumbled finishes, alongside chiseled or pillowed edges that add depth and texture. These antiqued elements evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the timeless elegance found in traditional Italian and Spanish designs that we love.

This revival of classic styles is a testament to the enduring appeal of historical influences in contemporary design, offering a perfect blend of the past and present that captivates and inspires. For more insights on this return to rustic design trend, check out our comprehensive guide.

Innovative Patterns and Formats: Beyond Traditional Tiles

Tiles are not only getting larger but also more diverse in their patterns and formats. Checkerboard and star & cross shapes are now available in porcelains designed to mimic stone, something that hasn't been seen before. Additionally, the classic octagon and dot combinations are being reinvented with various natural stone options, including the trending red stones.

We were particularly captivated by the tile and other innovative designs from Stone Impressions, which unveiled fresh color palettes featuring green, terracotta, and steel blues. These tiles showcase exquisite art murals printed on natural stone.
